Floor texture applying to entire building

Hi, I am struggling with not being able to apply different flooring types to different rooms in my building.

Reading through community threads I have tried two methods of using the "Apply material" function instead of drag & drop and also pressing and holding the shift button while applying it, but on my project, it still applies the same texture to the entire building. Within my building there are several different rooms. Some rooms have tile floors while others have carpeting. There are open doorways between these rooms to divide them, is that why DIALux thinks it's all one room?

However, the rooms are clearly divided and labeled as different rooms. Can you please help me to understand how to apply the different flooring materials to separate rooms?
